National Semiconductor in South Portland |
National Semiconductor designs and manufactures analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits. Its South Portland, Maine facility is a state-of-the-art high-tech manufacturing and design site for National Semiconductor, which is headquartered in Santa Clara, California. Commissioned in 1997, it is now Nationals fastest growing water fabrication facility, and is certified to ISO 9000, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
National has a focus in the following semicondoctor markets: • Information appliances - PCs, notebooks, set tops & DVDs. • Communications - wired, wireless & cordless phones. • Human interface - audio, CRT displays, flat-panel displays.
Why National Semiconductor chose Maine: Semiconductors have been manufactured in Maine since 1962 and there was infrastructure in place as part of an existing operation to expand to a new facility.
Maine offered business assistance and educational programs.
The promise to approve permitting within 45 days; permits were actually delivered in 21 days.

The quality of life in Maine is a major plus for our business. Employees originally from Maine tend to stay and employees hired from other states enjoy Maine's lifestyle.
