Why Maine?

The Hinckley Company in Southwest Harbor
Founded in 1928, The Hinckley Company is one of the oldest yacht builders in the U.S. For its first 27 years, the firm built fine wooden boats up to 73 feet in length and grew to become this country’s largest producer of wooden sailing auxiliaries. The long held tradition at the Hinckley Company is one of strong, seaworthy construction and refined craftsmanship. In the 1950’s under the guidance of founder Henry Hinckley, the company pioneered the use of glass-reinforced plastics for boat construction, which led to the complete fiberglass hull and deck. Modern Hinckley’s incorporate the latest in boat building materials and techniques. All hulls now are built using DualGuard™ that
marries an outer skin of Kevlar/E glass with an inner skin of carbon. By vacuum bagging all the parts using the SCRIMP® resin infusion process, the complex matrix of Kevlar/~ glass, aircraft grade balsa core and carbon fiber produce a fully integrated hull that maximizes strength at a remarkably low weight.

The Hinckley Company’s line of semi-custom sailing yachts includes the Sou’wester 42, 51, 52, 59, 61 and 70. The pioneer in semi-custom water jet propulsion yachts, Hinckley has introduced a steady string of designs since 1994 when it launched its now-classic, 36-foot Picnic Boat. The jet boats range in size from the 29-foot Talaria R29 Runabout and Center Console to the 55-foot Talaria 55 Motor Yacht.

Why The Hinckley Company chose Maine:

The Hinckley Company was founded in Southwest Harbor, Maine. As a family owned and run business, it has provided a stable work environment for many skilled craftsmen and women. Southwest Harbor is looked upon as a destination for the customers and visitors and is as much a part of the Hinckley tradition as the boats that are built there.
